- Associated with the goddess of love, Venus, our Sister Planet, is the brightest of all the planets. It can be seen up to four hours before sunrise or after sunset, shining at a blazing –4.4 magnitude.
- Venus spins backwards, the only planet in the Solar System to do so.
- The surface of the planet is obscured by dense clouds of carbon dioxide with only traces of other gases including nitrogen, sulphur dioxide and water vapour.
- The surface of Venus has been mapped by radar and shows evidence of large scale volcanism. Large volcanoes rise up to 8 kilometres and lava channels extend for thousands of kilometres across the surface which is made of basalt lava.
- The temperature at the surface is a sweltering 480 degrees Celsius.
